2025–2026 Midget Playoff Recap

And that’s a wrap on the 2025–2026 EJEPL Midget Season! Congratulations to all of our champions, and a sincere thank-you to every team, coach, player, and venue that helped make this season such a success. Below is a full recap of an incredible final weekend of hockey, highlighting the teams that captured championship titles across the 15U–18U Diamond and Futures Divisions.

15U Diamond

In the first semifinal, top-seeded Long Island Edge defeated the Long Beach Lightning 4–1. #40 Liam Moloney scored both first-half goals, assisted by #10 Peter Wetson, setting the tone early and earning the Edge a spot in the final. In the other semifinal, second-seeded Union Thunder defeated Genesis Hockey Club 3–1. After a scoreless first half, Union broke through in the second half with goals from three different players.

The championship matchup featured the top two seeds, and Long Island Edge came out strong once again. Moloney continued his impressive weekend by scoring two unanswered goals in the first half. The Edge added a third in the second half, and while Union Thunder managed a late goal, it wasn’t enough. Long Island Edge secured a 3–1 victory to claim the 15U Diamond championship.

16U Diamond 1

Top-seeded Genesis Hockey Club faced the New York Stars in the semifinals. After a scoreless first half, Genesis scored first in the second half before the Stars responded. Genesis ultimately netted the game-winner to earn a 2–1 victory, led by #22 Christopher Silvotti IV, who recorded one goal and one assist.

In the other semifinal, second-seeded Hershey Jr. Bears took on Delco Phantoms Charbonneau. After another scoreless first half, the Bears opened the scoring, but Delco answered with two unassisted goals from #18 Colin Maldonato to win 2–1 and advance to the final.

In the championship game, Genesis came out flying, scoring four first-half goals while Delco managed one. Delco made a strong push in the second half with three goals, but Genesis held firm and added an empty-net goal to secure a 6–4 win and the 16U Diamond 1 title.

16U Diamond 2

Top-seeded Potomac Patriots showed their dominance early, defeating the Southwest Westchester Blackhawks 6–1. The Patriots scored three unanswered goals in the first half and added three more in the second, highlighted by a two-goal performance from #15 Tyler Purdham.

In the other semifinal, second-seeded Loudoun Knights battled the Delaware Jr. Blue Hens in a tightly contested matchup. The Knights jumped out to a two-goal lead, but Delaware responded with two unassisted goals by #14 Ryan Syto to force overtime. Loudoun secured the overtime winner to advance.

The championship game was another close battle. Both teams scored in the first half, with Loudoun taking a 2–1 lead into the break. Potomac responded in the second half with two goals from #9 Tyler Prate, earning a 3–2 victory and the division championship.

16U Futures 1

Top seeds Hunterdon Bears and Long Island Sharks awaited their semifinal opponents following the quarterfinals. In the first quarterfinal, Mid Hudson Polar Bears shut out the Peconic Wildcats 5–0, with goals from five different players. In the second quarterfinal, North Park Hockey edged the Loudoun Knights after leading early and holding on for a win.

In the first semifinal, Mid Hudson upset top-seeded Hunterdon in a thrilling contest. After a back-and-forth game that ended tied late, #3 Louis Reyes completed his hat trick with the game-winning goal in the final seconds, lifting Mid Hudson to the championship game. In the other semifinal, North Park Hockey defeated second-seeded Long Island Sharks 4–1, led by two goals from #17 Alessio Barker.

The final featured Mid Hudson Polar Bears against North Park Hockey. North Park led 2–1 after the first half and extended the lead early in the second. Although Mid Hudson mounted a late push, North Park sealed the victory with a 5–3 win to claim the 16U Futures 1 championship.

16U Futures 2

Top-seeded Delco Phantoms Miller and Pelham Pelicans met in an overtime thriller in the semifinals. Delco built a two-goal lead, but Pelham tied the game in the second half with two goals assisted by #70 Conor Greaney. Despite strong performances from Delco’s #34 Griffin Nolan (two assists) and #77 Jackson Goodwin VII and #28 Joseph Digiovanni (one goal and one assist each), Pelham scored the overtime winner to advance.

In the other semifinal, second-seeded Peconic Wildcats dominated Delco Phantoms Crumlish with a 6–0 shutout, highlighted by a hat trick from #11 Russell Cuomo. Peconic carried that momentum into the final, shutting out Pelham 7–0. #63 Jacob St. Clair led the way with four goals, as the Wildcats captured the division championship.

18U Diamond 1

The quarterfinal matchup featured fourth-seeded New York Stars and fifth-seeded Putnam Panthers. Putnam edged out the Stars 3–2, with #11 Matthew Vance scoring twice. The Panthers then faced top-seeded Genesis Hockey Club in the semifinals, where another tightly contested game required overtime. After finishing regulation tied 2–2, Putnam scored the overtime winner to advance to the final.

Putnam faced second-seeded Snider Hockey, who shut out the Nassau County Lions 6–0 in their semifinal, led by two goals from #88 Chase Butler. In the championship game, the Panthers continued their remarkable run, scoring two early goals and adding two more to secure a 4–1 win. As the final seed to enter the playoffs, Putnam completed an impressive championship run.

18U Diamond 2

Long Island Edge opened the postseason with a shutout win over Genesis Hockey Club in the play-in game, earning a semifinal matchup against top-seeded North Park Hockey. The Edge upset North Park 6–3, with #22 Jake Sylvia scoring twice. In the other semifinal, second-seeded Richmond Generals defeated the Long Island Kings 7–3, led by two goals from #37 Robert Covington.

The championship game between Long Island Edge and Richmond Generals was a tight, defensive battle, ending regulation tied 1–1. Overtime was needed, and Long Island Edge secured the title with an unassisted game-winning goal by #44 Bennett Reda, completing an incredible run from the play-in game to division champions.
