OVERTIME PROCEDURES

EJEPL OVERTIME PROCEDURES

NEW FOR 2026-2027

  • Format: 5-minute, 3-on-3 sudden death period immediately following a regulation tie. There should be no intermission between the end of the third period and the beginning of overtime.

  • Long Change: Teams will switch ends to defend the goal farthest from their bench.

  • Outcome: The first goal wins the game. If the 5-minute period ends without a goal, the game ends in an official tie. There are no shootouts.

  • Penalties: If there is a penalty, teams will play 4-on-3 until the penalty is over. On the first whistle after the penalty, teams will revert to 3-on-3. If there is a two-man advantage teams will play 5-on-3 until the first penalty ends. Then it will be 5-on-4 until the first whistle where it will go to 4-on-3 until the 2nd penalty is over, after a whistle it will go to 3-on-3 again. There can never be less than 3 players on the ice for a specific team. All penalties carry over from regulation to the OT.
