The Maine Moose 18U competed in the 2A National Championship in Green Bay, WI. The Moose had a tough round robin schedule with two former foes in the Alaska Oilers and the Fort Wayne Force. The Moose beat the Oilers in their first game of the tournament with a goal by Cole Lockhardt with 23 seconds remaining to go up 3-2. The Oilers had tied the game at 2 just one and a half minutes before Cole scored. The first two Moose goals were scored by Mike Deveaux and Jacob Dubay. Jaxon Friedman was in goal for the win.
In Game two the Moose beat the Fort Wayne force their last season semi final foe with a score of 7-3. Goal scorers were Jackson Aldrich, Chris Throndson and Nick Garneau each with a pair and Ryan Kappleman had one. Ian Neureuther was in goal for the win.
The final game in round robin play was against Twin Bridges from the Chicago area. The Moose were really starting to gel and won that game handily with an 8-1 score. The goal scorers for the Moose were Chris Throndson and Cole Lockhardt each with two, while Gavin Bates, Mike Deveaux, Jacob Dubay and Cam Wilson each had one. Jaxon Friedman was in the next for the win.
In the 1/4 finals, the Moose faced the New Hampshire Avalanche, last years finals opponent. The Moose won 8-1 this time with goals by Nick Garneau with the hat trick, Ryan Kappleman with two and singles by Jacob Dubay, Marc Thibodeau and Mike Deveaux. Ian Neureuther was in the net for the win.
In the semi finals the Moose played their in state rivals the Casco Bay Mariners. The Mariners had received a bid to Nationals even though they lost to the Moose in the State Finals. Casco Bay took an early 3-0 lead in the second period. Ian Neureuther took over the net after the second Casco goal. Down 3-0 Jacob Dubay started the Moose rally off a great pass from Chris Throndson. After tying the game at 3 on goals by Gavin Bates and Chris Throndson, Casco Bay went up 4-3 just before the end of the second period. The Moose went up 5-4 on Gavin Bates and Chris Throndson goals, their second each of the game. After Casco tied the game Casco Bay player Jacob Martin took an ill advised major penalty for slashing. In overtime with only 45 seconds remaining on the powerplay, Jackson Aldrich knocked in a rebound off a Chris Throndson shot for the OT win.
In the final the Moose met a very strong Ashburn Xtreme team. The Moose held both a 1-0 lead and a 2-1 lead on Cam Wilson and Jacob Dubay Goals. The Xtreme tied the game at 2 with about 5 minutes to go in the game. With two minutes to go in the game Chris Throndson broke a 2-2 tie with a snipe off a great feed from Pat Sunderland. The Moose held on for the last two minutes and added an empty net goal by Cam Wilson with .6 seconds left. The Moose won their second 18U National Championship in as many years. Ian Neureuther was in goal for the win and played exceptionally well to hold off the Xtreme attack.
