EASTERN JUNIOR ELITE PROSPECTS LEAGUE

Commissioner's Bi-Weekly Newsletter

Please read below for pertinent league information from the desk of EJEPL Commissioner, Henry Lazar:

SCHEDULE GRID UPDATES

o  The EJEPL Staff will now begin working on new grids for NJ, CT, and RI teams based on the new mandates from their governors regarding interstate play. The Governors of NJ, CT, and RI will not allow outside teams into these states, nor can teams leave to play games in other states. The EJEPL will follow all rules set forth by state and local governments as well as those announced by the local affiliate.

How the new grids will work:

o  Games already played will remain as counted in the standings.

o  Any game that is already scheduled against a team from within the state mentioned above will remain as scheduled.

o  Games scheduled versus out of state teams will be removed or moved to the back of the schedule.

o  We hope to have the updated NJ, CT, and RI grids published and released to teams by Thanksgiving.

o  For NY and PA teams, as of this communication, the official policies remain the same. NY teams cannot play any games in the state of NY but can travel to play out of state and PA can play in or out of state. NY and PA grids will be updated following the update of NJ, CT, and RI grids as teams from NJ, CT, and RI must be removed from NY and PA grids.

o  Teams in DE, MD, VA, GA, FL, and NC will play each other when their grids are re-worked. These states have not yet restricted travel to and from other states.

PLANS MOVING FORWARD

o  The EJEPL is currently planning a Showcase for December 4-6 in PA, NJ, and hopefully NY. Pods of 5 teams each will play each other based on the states’ regulations.

o  We are also reviewing the protocols involved in extending the season and moving the playoffs later in the calendar. Factors such as local league schedules and playoffs, USAH Nationals, and 2020-2021 tryouts dates will be considered. If the playoffs are moved, the February 5-7 playoffs will be replaced with a showcase event within the states that allow such an event to take place. An announcement about the EJEPL playoff dates will be forthcoming.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

o  I want to truly thank the organizations, coaches, administrators, parents, and players for their cooperation with the EJ staff enabling us to host the originally planned six showcases so far this season. Obviously, scheduling and logistics were extremely difficult given the circumstances. Schedules changed by the hour due to COVID related issues.

o  I want to thank our host venues; Ice Works, Ice Line, Klick Arena, Wintersport Arena, Twin Ponds, Lancaster Arena, Ocean Ice Palace, Oaks Ice Center, Hatfield Ice, Flyers Skate Zone, and Exton Ice for their support, understanding, and flexibility in ensuring smooth and fluid planning for the successful showcases.

o  I also want to thank the EJ staff who for the last four months has professionally tackled all obstacles in helping make sure the league persevered through this difficult time. Steve Kauffman, Larry Nastasi, Jon Sandos, Erik Roos, Jeff DeSalvo, Jay Provost, Michael Fox, Jerry Keating, Marcus Dickerson, Alex DiCristafono, Frankie Giocastro, Stephanie Roos, Nicole DiPaolo, Mike Schubert, Eugene Binda, Tim Holtz, Monica Winkley, Anthony LoRusso, Anthony Bruno, and Sean McQuade have been instrumental in their efforts ensuring a strong and successful first half of the season.

o  We are hoping that with the vaccine and other preventative measures on the horizon that the virus is checked in a way that allows us to get back to our normal lives sooner rather than later. The players and parents, at least for short periods of time, were able to escape the outside world while competing in the game they love and playing their games. We are hoping that 2021 will be a normal and healthy year for all.
